- Do you currently have a site backup plan (timing; auto/manual; etc.)?
Auto is certainly good, since you don't have to think about it and if everything is working correctly, it is covered. However, be careful. You are putting your business in the hands of someone else and no matter how good they are, things happen. I once trusted one of the most well-trusted backup companies in the world and it cost me 72 hours of manual labor to salvage the company, after Microsoft said it couldn't be saved.
Hey - not here to worry you. Just saying that a second opinion is not a bad idea to make sure you are safe. Or, like Da Vinci mentions, she still makes another backup. A couple of those, in addition to auto helps. :)
@socialwebcafe A1. Just what my designer & Host provide. Its all auto. #SocialCafe #TBW— Busy Being Jennifer (@BusyBeingJenn) March 5, 2014 | A1. We have automatic daily backups for @YourLifeAfter25 with @GoDaddy... and we also do backups on the site #SocialCafe #TBW— The Blog Workshop :) (@TheBlogWorkshop) March 5, 2014 |
- What features do you look for in a backup plan?
Ease of use ranks pretty high for desired features, doesn't it? :)
A2. We always looking for a backup option that has an easy restore process, also anything with automatic ease :) #SocialCafe #TBW— The Blog Workshop :) (@TheBlogWorkshop) March 5, 2014 | A2: Features that easy to use, also the more stuff that can be auto-saved with minimum effort the better. #SocialCafe— Marisa (@MoppetMissy) March 5, 2014 |
- Do you have any stories of restoring from backup? What would be important to you in restoration? What concerns?
Pam - that is great to hear! I’m hoping the same for the rest of you, too, that there are no issues in your future ;) After this series, at least you will be prepared, eh?
A3 I do in the corporate world, where the backups showed as valid and were not; testing is important! #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) March 5, 2014 | A3 I've been blessed no issues with my backups. Knocking on wood now LOL! #SocialCafe #TBW— Pam (@PinkMama68) March 5, 2014 |
- How has this inspired you in your blog backup endeavors?
It looks like this has inspired us to do something, or do more, in the area of protecting our content and our sites. That is a good thing! Pat yourselves on the back ;)
A4: It has inspired me to be more aware, proactive and responsible about backing up and protecting blog's content #SocialCafe— Marisa (@MoppetMissy) March 5, 2014 | A4 To look for opps for more automation. #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) March 5, 2014 |
Final Thoughts and Action Steps
There seems to be a theme here and I am right there, too. I would die if I lost my content! BTW - there are some other creative ways to help with your content that are outside the realm of backups, yet they serve as backups and more! We’ll have to add that to our list of future #SocialCafe topics... one of these years :D
I'm sure that is a common feeling! MT @BusyBeingJenn: @perfecttenn agreed! I think I'd just DIE if I lost my content! #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) March 5, 2014 | Yes! RT @perfecttenn: @TheBlogWorkshop A3 My content!!! I can always fix my design, but can't always get content back. #SocialCafe #TBW— Deborah (@socialwebcafe) March 5, 2014 |
