I am good. Thanks! Yeah, the next one is next month ;) So, it will be a monthly interview chat? Great hashtag, by the way! RT : During our 3p EDT Chat hour we will be talking about Twitterquette, ethics, and pet peeves. RT : Welcome to another Chat, at our normal 3pm EDT slot every Wednesday. Hello everyone...I almost didn't make it...local WISP was down - just came up this instant.
RT : RT : Welcome to another Chat, at our normal 3pm EDT slot every Wednesday. Q1 What are Twitter Ethics? How about Twitter Etiquette? Well, no restrictions. It could be monthly or bi monthly or may be more. I am all flexible ;) Hi Jeevan Great to see you here from the beginning. Glad you could make it
I wanted to do something different, so at least one thing is going to change with every chat. My classes got done early ;) Thanks to my professor :D A1 To me, Twitter Etiquette is how to behave within normal parameters. The difficulty is how to define that. Welcome Abhi I thought I knew you as - I guess not? I think it all depends. Now there is an set of things that the majority of people agree on - like spamming. Oh no, Jeevan - there is NO consensus on what spam is even today! Beyond that, it's all very subjective. Take for instance: automation. I don't like automation (but, I do support semi automation). Good point on spamming, on how there seems to be a global consensus on that. Well, maybe the spammers don't agree I have to agree with that, Gail ;) Definition of spam is also somewhat subjective. RT : Q1 What are Twitter Ethics? How about Twitter Etiquette? RT : Q1 What are Twitter Ethics? How about Twitter Etiquette? From a businessman (Who wants profit) stand point, what matters to me is the number of followers. RT : A1 To me, Twitter Etiquette is how to behave within normal parameters. The difficulty is how to define that. I did find that interesting, the "take" that you were shouting, specifically, at one Tweep, Gail. I like how you handled it. But, I am a blogger. So, I care more about the quality of the followers and relationship I have made. A1 There are many aspects of Twitterquette that most agree on (except the spammers) Ok. Point well taken. Not saying there is one definition, but I think there is general dislike of SPAM. Actually, even businesses should only want TARGETED followers interested in what they offer So, the acceptable twitter behavior for me is when you try hard to make those relationships instead of plain promotional. Businesses on Twitter should be focused on quality of relationships with current and potential customers But, there aren't a lot of businesses who consider relationship building as more important (many are jumping on board) Definitely there IS a general dislike of SPAM which has led to objecting many times to what is NOT spam. LIKE! MT : So, the acceptable twitter behavior is [to] make those relationships instead of plain promotional. Jeevan has it right >> that we should strive to build RELATIONSHIPS on Twitter NOT just promote Early on businesses and even people like me did not know to focus on relationship building In fact, many of us did not even know HOW to build relationships before social networking came along MT : The acceptable twitter behavior is when you try hard to make those relationships instead of plain promotional. Q2 What are your pet peeves on Twitter behavior? Interesting point RT : In fact many of us did not even know HOW to build relationships before social networking came along I kind of disagree, Gail. Because as humans we are social creatures. we may be introverts, but we always have relations We have actually been CONDITIONED to be passive receivers of information NOT interacting with each other! I'm glad to hear that is true for you, Jeevan, but unfortunately it is not for many, MANY Americans RT : Q2 What are your pet peeves on Twitter behavior? RT : Q2 What are your pet peeves on Twitter behavior? Of course, it is hard to figure out the "hows" of it (there isn't a distinct how, it's just all about interaction) A2 Twitter Pet Peeve #1 Offensive images and content in bios I can see that. I wonder if it is a matter of access to interact. But, I sometimes feel it is a pro and a con. A2 Twitter pet peeve #2 People sending me JUST a link - not clicking on those - none of us should! Not access because we COULD all have real relationships but most do not. It is also cultural where people I know from Mexico & India for example who have big regular get togethers A2 More of a human pet peeve is people thinking we can read their minds and are exactly like them - we can't & we aren't! Hahaha ;) I think that's a thought we all have had, in some point of our life! Jeevan I bet you get together with friends and family live, don't you? Many Americans don't. I was referring specifically to the "information Age." Access has caused some "not to go out" and others to be social A2 Yes we can throw Twitter changing things into Pet Peeves. I'm with Kristi disliking new design Yes, it is kind of like a custom in India to get together occassionally :D The question is, do we dislike it because it is change? (re: Twitter design) that is so cool! RT : Yes, it is kind of like a custom in India to get together occassionally :D That is the point I make in that post That ironically being ONLINE created more offline interaction Before the Internet people watched TV, played video games, watched movies - all often alone Now we actually INTERACT with others online which teaches us HOW to do it in real life, too. But, things change a lot (Especially the the new generations who don't want to do that!) No I dislike Twitter's changes because they make it less usable - actually made me finally learn to use !! Friends from India often travel in large groups - many maybe even most Americans travel alone I was thinking the time before video games, eras past, with box socials, community get togethers, back during party lines Q3 What do you do to overcome your pet peeves on Twitter? Nurse friend had friends visit the ranch from India - huge group came, brought food, rode horses. Yippee! :) MT : - actually made me finally learn to use Yes, all these new tech gadgets is the reason for all this ;) If you want a regular event to take off you invite cultures who do things together because they will come regularly. Ah, that is sad. But, seems to be a part of life, good or bad. *are that reason ;) I am kind of a grammar guy (maybe a pet peeve!) During my lifetime there has always been TV so people I know never got together regularly A3 As with , even if the change is undesirable, it doesn't do any good to overly obsess. We don't own or FB It is. Some changes, we can "change" them too (if we try hard!) Also true that unusual people who are often bloggers were often loners before the Internet because no local people like them Q3 Get over it! Join the real world and walk the dog. LOL :) RT : *are that reason ;) I am kind of a grammar guy (maybe a pet peeve!) Take for instance: If a million twitter users complained about the new design, I think Twitter may consider changes Yes you are right does indeed rock! Leading Twitter app for years now LIKE RT : Q3 Get over it! Join the real world and walk the dog. LOL MT A3 Get over it! Join the real world and walk the dog! Don't hold your breath, Jeevan They do NOT care what users think "because no local people like them?" They need a :) We have to stop projecting caring onto corporations that simple do not and never will care what we think. I still use the twitter interface ;) My fav twitter tool! Some of us there aren't really many non-local people like us :-D But I meant there were no local people SIMILAR to them more than locals don't like them ;-) Yes, from a business perspective, they may not. But, there might be at least one guy in there who cares abt customers! Hey did you collect your prize from ? I always used Twitter interface until last change forced me to use 2-3 windows to interact RT : Q3 What do you do to overcome your pet peeves on Twitter? RT : Q3 What do you do to overcome your pet peeves on Twitter? RT : Q3 What do you do to overcome your pet peeves on Twitter? The new design makes that even worse - moves things down the page so now I WILL use & instead I keep forgetting it exists because I use tools. Thnx for reminder. MT : I still use the twitter interface ;) No, not yet (I thought Enstine might email me). RT : The new design makes that even worse - moves things down the page so now I WILL use & instead Enstine has been very ill - get with me on Skype after chat and I will see what I can do The twitter interface gives me the "feel" of twitter (puts me in the mood!) I won't be available for the rest of the day or for the next 2 days (full day classes!) How about email, Gail? Q4 How can we improve Twitter Etiquette? Skype any time is better than email because I may not see it but you're welcome to try if you prefer email A3 Most you have to just live with - block the offensive accounts and spammers A3 Be patient and tolerant with people who think there is only ONE way to do anything (sorry - not true) A4 We can only improve OUR OWN Twitter Etiquette - not others A4 Set a good example and encourage people (tips, articles, videos, etc.) RT : A3 Be patient and tolerant with people who think there is only ONE way to do anything (sorry - not true) RT : A4 We can only improve OUR OWN Twitter Etiquette - not others A4 For me I learned to interact more instead of just sharing links & RTs RT : A4 Set a good example and encourage people (tips, articles, videos, etc.) RT : A3 Be patient and tolerant with people who think there is only ONE way to do anything (sorry - not true) Follow the people we really have to follow (don't mass follow!), remove inactive acc, block spammers! And interact with others! RT : RT : A4 We can only improve OUR OWN Twitter Etiquette - not others Welcome to Twitter chat KD Thanks for the retweet RT : Q4 How can we improve Twitter Etiquette? RT : Q4 How can we improve Twitter Etiquette? A2 Spammy DMs almost bug me more than spammy tweets. I don't use DM any more, as a result. RT : Q4 How can we improve Twitter Etiquette? How many and who you follow depends on your goals on Twitter. I follow many more than a typical blogger or business would Everyone should focus on following those most relevant to them. Much easier than having tons of followers! I am always happy to answer questions about Twitter, share how-to links & videos, connect on Skype (only growmap there) has a bunch of Twitter tips she has written. You can sign up to get them in your email. http://b2ct.me/PE33Fh ht Glad you mentioned DMs Deb If anyone knows how to block auto-DMs I'm all ears I don't see most DMs because so many auto-DMs and you can't tell if they're auto or not! I want to answer what are live No way I can answer all the auto-DMs I receive, but would answer personal DMs if I could tell which was which! Got to go. Great chat and ! See you guys next week ;) We used to use to block auto-DMs but that went away as far as I can tell. Thanks for being here, Jeevan Thanks, Jeevan. Will watch for your email. So true! MT : No way I can answer all the auto-DMs I receive, would answer personal DMs if I could tell which was which! RT : Next week, on , we will talk about collecting money on your blog.
